Tire Fire Presents: Bomer, Housely, Sutherland, Eckes

Tire Fire is back with a great lineup of some favorites!  Paula Bomer, Dave Housley, Kirwyn Sutherland, and Ryan Eckes bring verbal evidence of the absolute refinement in the Philadelphia literary scene.

This month, they’re supporting CAIR – Philadelphia Chapter, whose mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding. With Civil Rights Advocacy, Media, Interfaith, Education and Youth Leadership, CAIR-Philadelphia brings an Assertive Muslim American Perspective to the Table. And as always, the bar will be matching all of their donations.

PAULA BOMER is the author of the collection, Inside Madeleine (Soho Press, May 2014), the novel Nine Months (Soho Press, August 2012), which received exuberant reviews inThe Atlantic, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, The Minneapolis Star Tribune and elsewhere, and the collection, Baby and Other Stories (Word Riot Press, December 2010), received a starred review in Publishers Weekly. She also is the publisher of Sententia Books and edits Sententia: The Literary Journal.Her collection of essays, Mystery and Mortality: Essays of the Sad, Short Gift of Life, will be released in April 2017 by Publishing Genius.

DAVE HOUSLEY is a writer and web person and normal dude. He’s the author of Massive Cleansing Fire,This Darkness Got to Give, If I Knew the Way, I Would Take You Home, Commercial Fiction, and Ryan Seacrest is Famous. He’s one of the founding editors of Barrelhouse, a literary magazine that bridges the gap between serious art and pop culture. Dave lives in State College, PA with his wife Lori, son Ben, two dogs, and a cat who routinely wins wrestling matches against the youngest dog.

KIRWYN SUTHERLAND is a poet, spoken word artist, and writer based in the Philadelphia, PA region. He seeks to break the molds in performance poetry and expand the range of topics discussed via the arts.

RYAN ECKES was born in Northeast Philadelphia in 1979. He is the author of two poetry collections published by Furniture Press Books, OLD NEWS (2011) and VALU-PLUS (2015). He has served as adjunct professor at numerous regional colleges over the past decade, and in recent years as a labor organizer in education. He won a Pew Fellowship in 2016.
