DESCRIPTION:The last Accidental Player of 2017 brings Cynthia Dewi Oka\, Scott Daughtridge\, Sham-e-Ali Nayeem & Emma Brown Sanders together for your listening pleasure! \nDoors open at 7pm and the readings start at 8pm\nFREE admission!\n50¢ pierogi until 10pm\nHalf off all drafts 5-7 & 10-11pm \nCynthia Dewi Oka is the author of Salvage (Northwestern University Press\, 2017) and Nomad of Salt and Hard Water (Thread Makes Blanket\, 2016). A two-time Pushcart Prize Nominee\, her poems have appeared in American Poetry Review\, Kenyon Review\, Guernica\, Black Renaissance Noire\, The Massachusetts Review\, Kweli Journal\, and elsewhere. She has received the Fifth Wednesday Journal Editor’s Prize in Poetry\, scholarships from Voices of Our Nations and Vermont Studio Center\, and the Leeway Foundation’s Art and Change Grant. She has served as a Poetry Mentor for the Blueshift Journal’s Speakeasy Project\, and is the creator of Sanctuary: A Migrant Poetry Workshop for immigrant poets in Philadelphia. Among other projects\, her work will also appear in the new anthologies Women in Resistance (OR Books\, 2018) and Who Will Speak for America (Temple University Press\, 2018). \nScott Daughtridge”s fiction has recently appeared in Whiskey Paper\, Necessary Fiction\, Midwestern Gothic\, The Fanzine\, The Airgonaut\, and other places. His chapbook\, I Hope Something Good Happens\, was published by Lame House Press. \nEmma Brown Sanders is a queer poet living in Philadelphia. Her work can be found in Bedfellows\, Bone Bouquet\, Boneless Skinless\, Full Stop\, Fungiculture\, and Reflections on the Burden of Men. \nSham-e-Ali Nayeem is a Philadelphia area based poet and visual artist who was born in Hyderabad\, India and raised in both the UK and the US. Recipient of the 2016 Loft Literary Center Spoken Word Immersion Fellowship\, her poetry has appeared in publications\, such as SALT Journal\, SAMAR\, Apiary\, Dusie and Mizna\, and can be found in anthologies\, including Shattering the Stereotypes: Muslim Women Speak Out (Olive Branch Press\, 2005)\, Living Islam Out Loud: American Muslim Women Speak (Beacon Press\, 2005) and Shout Out: Women of Color Respond to Violence (Seal Press\, 2008). Sham-e-Ali has performed her poetry both locally & internationally. She is currently working on her forthcoming book of poetry The City of Pearls (UpSet Press 2017).
